RACISM AND DINGAAL LAND RIGHTS IN QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
RACISM AND DINGAAL LAND RIGHTS IN QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
"This is a S.O.S. call…When I call the RSPCA, the same one we have in Canada. The RSPCA stands for the Royal Society against Cruelty to Animals. They have admitted that full blood Aboriginal people are seen as gorillas because that's what the Reverends and Church officials,,,in 1780 when they first colonized this country that Aboriginal people were no more than monkeys. And the RSPCA is agreeing at this moment they're still classified as animals and monkeys." Ruth Schaefer, Advocate.
"Yah, ya. They still call me a monkey. They always say I'm a monkey… And government people,,,everywhere I travel they call me
Black Monkey. Monkey don't own this. You don't own this land. We own the land. We own the land. Not you." Gordon Charlie, Dingaal Clan Elder and Custodian of traditional customs and laws.
"Nothing in the legislation,,,can change that. So, therefore we need the RSPCA to say they are a very much endangered species,,,full ancestry Black Aboriginal elder… We make a presentation and invite to Black America and Black Canada to support your brotherhood. Because you just do not treat Black people like this."
"And I have never seen Black people getting treated so bad by government staff taking down to them, by lawyers treating them like children, by government lying to them and saying they are going to consult you, but when it comes to consulting they dictate a totalitarian agenda, to say 'Oh, we understand you don't want your land to be transferred to one land trust at Hopevale, integrating Cape Flattery, too bad we are going to do it anyway Gordon. And there is nothing you can do."
"It's so much of a breach of the United Nations Declaration on Self-Governance and Self-Government of the people. Now its time to stand up to the Government that is doing this and say you have governed incorrectly for so long, for so wrong, we now want to do it ourselves."

DINGAAL ELDER THREATENED OVER ROYALTIES TO SILICA MINE AT CAPE FLATTERY
DINGAAL ELDER THREATENED OVER ROYALTIES TO SILICA MINE AT CAPE FLATTERY - QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
"Gordon Charlie, Elder for Dingaal, he's still being threatened,,,Baru calls us every day. He's a person put on there by default by the Government. He's a yes person for the Government. He's threatened my life and that of Gordon. And he's trying to get me in trouble by trying to frame me on things to get me out of the way. He's made threats to me to stop helping Gordon and his people.
He's just wanting complete control over Dingaal and the Charlie family so he can get complete control over that, the mining royalties and the mining lease with Mitsubishi.
We can explain that the mining lease is not legal because Gordon and the real Dingaal have not said yes to it. And this is why the Government is trying to bully us with no legal representation, no monies, properly for Gordon, he is entitled to. And,,,making threats to Gordon,,,that's why he's,,,in Mareeba.
And we're needing all the help we can because this is,,,totalitarianism. It's not a democracy and that's why Hopevale is like a little jailhouse, especially for the Dingaal. We should be living at Cape Flattery. They can't because it's polluted. With high,,,a very, very, certain high mineral content where fish cannot live in it. And it's polluting the Great Barrier Reef. And the water is not safe to drink but they are not telling people that.
Cape Flattery used to have a township there. That's been moved. A girlfriend of mine at the university was pregnant, she lived at Cape Flattery and was asked to relocate because of that pollution.
They don't want to see the aboriginal people here practicing their belief systems. That's why this whole thing about Gordon eroding,,,eroding Gordon's whole position has happened because he's the holder of the customs. They want to break it down so they can segregate the people who are yes people for the Government to sign off on any agreements, but don't hold their customs and belief systems in high esteem. That's why I am advocating for the belief system."

DINGAAL LAND RIGHTS ADVOCATES ARE VICTIMS OF RACISM AND ASSAULTS
DINGAAL ARE VICTIMS OF ABORIGINAL RACISM, FORCED LAND ACQUISITION, AND LOSS OF INDIGENOUS SOVEREIGNTY AND TREATY LAND RIGHTS IN QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
The Dingaal Clan in Queensland, Australia are victims of racism, death threats, assaults, forced land acquisition, loss of Indigenous sovereignty and traditional Land Rights contrary to their Native Title determination. They need help to get their story out and are seeking alliance and support from Idle No More in Australia and Canada.
Ruth Schaefer, Aboriginal Rights Advocate and legal adviser to the Dingaal Clan, is a victim of assaults, home break-ins and death threats. Ruth is a Canadian white woman who has lived in Queensland for over 20 years. She was adopted by the Star Blanket Tribe in Saskatchewan.
Gordon Charlie, full-blood Dingaal Elder and Aboriginal Land rights activist, has been driven from his traditional territory in Hopevale, Cooktown, and Cape Flattery by thugs working for Noel Pearson and the Cape York Land Council. Pearson is a lawyer and mixed blood aborigine without Native Title. Gordon has also been assaulted and is seeking refuge with Ruth in Mareeba. Dingaal traditional laws and customs are under attack and being ignored by the status quo.
Lizard Island is a sacred place for the Dingaal aborigines of Queensland but is off limits to the original people and traditional owners as a Natural Park and Tourist Destination.
The black aborigines in Queensland are subject to racism. Gordon is often called a "monkey" or "ape" by non-aboriginal and white people and too "ignorant" to have Native Title to the land.
The Dingaal Native Title encompasses the Cape Flattery Silica Mines Pty. Ltd. owned by Mitsubishi with deep water port within the Great Barrier Reef. It is the largest global exporter and world's biggest manufacturer of silica sand for the glass, foundry and chemical industries.
Dingaal Clan entitlements to royalties are in jeopardy with forced acquisition of their traditional land rights and Native Title with other Clans under the control of the Cape York Land Council and its various subsidiary groups. The Council is a Native Title Representative Body appointed under the Native Title Act 1993 (NT) to assist Indigenous people of the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, Australia. Balkanu, the Cape York Development Corporation, a not-for-profit indigenous organization, is owned by the Cape York Aboriginal Charitable Trust on behalf of the Aboriginal people of Cape York.
Noel Pearson has used his influence and resources for court injunctions to stop the mining royalties and land from the Cape Flattery Silica Mind going to rival groups in the Cape York Aboriginal community of Hopevale.
The Hopevale Congress represents 12 Native Title groups and holds 110,000 ha of land in trust for the benefit of the local Aboriginal people and receives $6 million royalty payments from the Cape Flattery Silica Mine. However, Gordon Charlie of the Dingaal Clan, the original occupants of Cape Flattery, claims his people receive very little for their Native Title rights.
Gordon has been in a battle for royalties with the Cape York Land Council since 1998 with legal help and support from Ruth. In 2003 he demanded the Council hand over a copy of the controversial Heads of Agreement signed by all 13 Hopevale clans in Feb. 1996. The Council failed to hand over the deeds of trust set up for Cape Flattery Silica Sand Mine royalties to develop business and other economic opportunities for the traditional owners.
Gordon was pressured into signing the agreement with the promise of receiving his royalties. He has not received any substantive benefits or economic support since then. Ruth says if the parties were not properly dealt with during the signing process then the contract would be illegal. Gordon believes there are $millions in the trust.
Ruth is suffering from post traumatic stress from the assaults and the court has recognized her as a victim of crime. She is seeking compensation for Aboriginal Healing in Canada. She was awarded compensation by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal but the decision was appealed by the Attorney-General in December 2012.
Ruth Schaefer, Legal Advocate, and Gordon Charlie, Dingaal Clan Elder, need help with email and basic communications. They do not have the technical support and material resources to set up and maintain a FaceBook account, Blog, or website and upload content. They are seeking volunteers and assistance to increase public awareness and raise funds for legal costs.
